Hi there!
Thanks for taking the time for browsing through this web-site. My name is Ken Nysse (pronounced Nice-ee). My surname is Dutch although I’m Kiwi (New Zealand) born.
I'm primarily a visual person; ask me directions and I could not guide you by street names, but instead by landmarks and images. In my teenage years, I purchased a compressor and air-brushes and earned a little pocket money custom painting graphics and murals onto cars, vans, helmets, boats and even a fridge door, and often assisted with backdrops for our college’s musicals and operatic productions.
After University and 2 years traveling through Europe on an O.E., I returned to New Zealand and joined the corporate life working in a variety of sales and trade marketing functions - all with a very highly analytical and creative element. I now live in Havelock North with my partner and our 3 children. When we returned back to Hawkes Bay a few years ago, from Auckland, I re-engaged my artistic energies into painting. I have a small studio in our home.
I have been exhibiting in a number of personal and selected exhibitions, Hawkes Bay wineries and most recently now exclusively in Napier’s Quay Gallery and Tamarillo Gallery in central Wellington.
I am particularly drawn to New Zealand’s land forms and seascapes, from which the body of my work is based. I also have a keen passion for photography and through these images I base my paintings. My camera travels with me on most journey’s, just in case I see the ‘perfect’ shot.
The North Island’s Volcanic Central Plateau, the Southern Alps and tussock hills, and the rolling, uplifting hills and turquoise seascapes of the Hawkes Bay are a primary focus for me. Working primarily with acrylics on canvas or board, I sometimes incorporate other mediums and textures for effect, such as stones, woven flax, paper mache and gel mediums.
